the chills could be a sign of infection. Increasing shortness of breath, increased quantity of sputum with altered color are signs of COPD exacerbation due to infection. A visit to your doctor is required for assessment of your lung function. Low oxygen in the blood may cause serious complications, so this visit has to be done as soon as possible - today that is.
If your oxygen saturation is adequate then intensified COPD treatment and antibiotics might be enough. Otherwise hospitalization might be necessary.
There are other possibilities besides COPD but your history and the chills make a COPD exacerbation due to infection is the most likely cause.
