What Causes Chills, Body Pains And Fever?

I am a man who is almost 73 years old, but in good health. I exercise an average of two hours a day. I am retired and am around very few other people except when I am shopping. The last time we were out of town was May 22, when we returned from three weeks in Northern Spain. I live in Lenexa, Kansas. I walked about six miles yesterday and was preparing to go for a bike ride, when I started getting chills. I put on a warm robe and pulled a light blanket over my upper legs. I took my temperature around 5:00. It was 100.2. I munched a little last night and went to bed. I woke up in the middle of the night feeling miserable. I stayed in bed until mid-morning even though I did not get any real sleep. However, I still ached when I got up, but my temperature had dropped to 98.5. But by noon today, the fever was back: 100.6 at last read and I am still aching all over. I have taken no medicine, but did take two aspirin early this morning. I am worried.
This is probably caused by a flu!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. I have reviewed your information fully and this seems to be suggestive of a possible viral infection which takes the form of a flu. It causes generalized body pain, fatigue and causes a low grade fever like what you reported. Treatment is all about managing the symptoms, eating healthy, fruits, vegetables and regular exercise. These will help accelerate healing.
I will advise that you use tylenol and not aspirin as aspirin can cause stomach problems. It generally takes about 5-7days for complete healing with most persons feeling a lot better within 3days.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
