What Causes Chronic Post Nasal Drip Post A Sinus Surgery?

default
Posted on Fri, 18 Mar 2016
Question: I had sinus surgery in december 2014. Ever since, I have had chronic post nasal drip. Ive tried all the medications including PPI for silent reflux...nothing has helped.
I have also had a CT scan and it shows the sinus surgery successful I still think it has something to do with the surgery the last thing I read was a bacterial infection pooling inside my cavities that continuously causes the drip
I am at my wits end I can hardly stand this anymore I cannot imagine living the rest of my life this way do you have any advice please

Brief Answer:
Treat the cause, not just symptoms.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Sinus symptoms are just the outcome of the underlying illness. That is gastric discomfort aka GERD. Until and unless that is managed completely , sinus symptoms will keep recurring.

Just nexium and PPIs will not help. It will need a complete diet and lifestyle modifications. Losing weight, eating small frequent meals, avoiding spices, stimulants, chocolates, caffeine and reducing caloric intake and delaying sleep and lying down after last meal are some initial modifications you need to start with.

For post nasal drips and sinus symptoms, decongestants use, salt water gargles, fluids intake and warm comforting beverages will help.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan

I am currently modifying my diet.
I just find it odd that I never had this until after the surgery its been a little over a year now
I've never had this problem till after the surgery could it be Surgery related?

Brief Answer:
Acid reflux likely, sinus surgery may be the cause

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back to me

If you had sinus surgery for some other reason than this post nasal drip then i am afraid acid reflux is the starter and sinus symptoms leading to surgery is the outcome. The doctor should more focus on GERD rather than sinuses. If there is any anatomical deformity which needed correction then fine .
I hope it helps.
