What Causes Clear Stringy Mucus In Urine After Treating UTI?

default
Posted on Thu, 25 Jun 2015
Question: my mother is 83 years old and has just got over having a UTI with antibiotics. It has been about 2 weeks since she finished them. She still has a clear stringy mucus when she urinates and now she has these XXXXXXX soft, irregular shape looking things that come out when she urinates. They are scarey looking and it has been happening everytime she urinates. I think she should see a urologist and her doctor seems to think she should see a gynecologist. My mom has alzheimers and says she in not in any discomfort now.
Do you have any idea what this could be?
Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Get her investigated.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
It seems she is suffering from Urinary tract infection (UTI) only, which requires evaluation of the cause, so that she doesn't get the repeated episodes.
The most common causes of UTI at this age are Diabetes, Stones in renal tract and bed betting, Vesicourethral reflux
She need to get an Ultrasound Abdomen and Urine culture.
No antibiotics should be started before giving a sample of urine culture, otherwise the report can be affected.
If any stone is found she would be treated based on size, site of stone. If Urine infection is found she would be given antibiotics based on culture report.
If she has any ongoing fever, you doctor would take her urine for culture and sensitivity and will start her on antibiotics that would be modified based on the culture report.
She should drink plenty of water
You need to see an Urologist for this purpose. This problem is not gynae related.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.
