What Causes Cluster Of Brown Spots On Sides Of Fingers?
Question: I have clusters of brown spots that appear on the sides of my fingers and has recently started on the palm and side of hands. I first noticed these spots almost 2 years ago but they were very small and only few would be seen on the side of one or two fingertips. Now they appear daily and cause my skin to break and peel sometimes causing redness and pain where the skin peels off. Recently I have experienced tiny blister like spots that are arounf the usually brown spots which is new. They are difficult to see yet they just appear a tiny bit raised though most of the time they cant even be felt if I run my finger over them. In good lighting, these seem to have almost a translucent spot in the middleand the skin underneath and around is white. There is a family history of skin cancer so that is my main concern..I also have taken photos of this but cant find anything to compare them. Please help me with this issue?.
Brief Answer:
Dyshidrosis
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your query and pictures of the lesions.
These are suggestive of Dyshidrosis, a type of eczema. This is due to allergic reaction and there is no need to worry as it is not a cancer.
All you have to do is to apply clobetasol ointment over it for 2 weeks and take tab fexofenadine if there is accompanied itch. Keep the area dry and dust free.
Hope i have answered you. If you have any query, please feel free to ask otherwise you can close the discussion.
Wish you good health.

I have never had any kind of eczema or skin problems before...what caused it now at my age? Is it possible of some kind of viral or bacterial issue in my body that causes stuff like this? I have been diagnosed with cervical cancer years ago though it was cut out using the leep procedure. I never followed up to find out about hpv so I was curious of this may be the hpv causing it? It is moving from my fingers to hands and spreading downward over the inside of the wrists? I just read something that connected hpv is all and was curious? Thank you for your time Dr. Katiyar
Brief Answer:
Can occur at any age.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the follow up. I have understood your concern regarding any bacterial or viral (HPV) origin to your present condition.
Dyshidrotic eczema can occur at any age and its occurrence is twice in female than male. It can occur due to contact dermatitis to nickel, balsam, cobalt, emotional stress, environmental factors( seasonal changes, hot or cold temperatures, humidity, dust mites). The lesion is usually seen at the edge of fingers, palms and foot ,and in some cases can occur at palm or sole.
Yes, it can be associated with bacterial or fungal(more frequent) infection. But a clinical examination with investigations is required to see if any fungal infection is associated.
Regarding HPV, it presents are bigger lesion like warts unlike your lesions. So HPV can be ruled out. Peeling of skin is not usually seen in HPV.
You can also apply petroleum based jelly over along with mentioned ointment. It will take time to go away and can be more frustrating to you. But my suggestion is that you should consult a dermatologist for clinical examination and prescription.
