What Causes Cognitive Disorders?
Yes it can
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for choosing health care magic for posting your query.
I have gone through your question in detail and I can understand what you are going through.
Yes it is possible. Cognitive disorders can develop abruptly. 6 months is a long period for it to develop. Further its not necessary tha it should only be toxic or stress causes that can cause cognitive disorders. Mostly it is a degenarative cause that can lead to cognitive disorders. The person will be required to undergo MRI scan of the brain and other biochemical tests as well like B12 levels and thyroid levels.
Hope I am able to answer your concerns.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Certain cognitive disorders can develop abruptly. Those involve vascular causes. They may not show up on biochemical tests. However MRI my show up such findings. But mostly cognitive disorders develop gradually. Yes it is possible to diagnose such a disorder even when there was no problem previously.

There could be plenty of causes
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the follow-up.
Cognitive disorders developing over 6 months could be due to plenty of reasons:
1) Vascular Causes
2) Metabolic causes: Dyselectrolytemia, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, Metabolic acidosis/alkalosis
3) Delirium
4) Tumors like meningioma
5) Hypothyroidism or hypercortisolemia
6) Seizure related
7) Age related
8) Vitamin deficiencu especially the B12 deficiency.
9) Psychogenic
However if the causes of the cognitive deficit cannot be ascertained with certainty then the reason could be a Cognitive Disorder NOS.
The expected behaviours being:
1) Withdrawn behaviour
2) Filling in the gaps with false memories
3) Not being over concerned with the memory lapses
4) In later stages inability to do normal chores for self.
Hope this helps,
If you have any additional queries let me know.
