What Causes Cold And Cough Frequently In An Infant?
Question: My Son is 10 months old. He regularly suffers from cough and cold. He had a cough and cold episode in November for which he had to be given nebulization and injection of antibiotic Xone along with DeXona. The cold and cough medicine continued almost 1 month. Again in Feb he suffered from cough and cold and again needed nebulization. Syp Maxtra and Ventorlin were prescribed for 7-8 days along with Antibiotic Lizoforce dry syp for 7 days. Also syp Montair LC was prescribed for 3 months. While his cough improved it didn't end completely. I continued Maxtra and Ventorlin till now I.e 1 month and again his cough and cold has increased. Please suggest why he is often sick and anything I can do to improve his condition. Also can I continue the same medication prescribed in Feb this time also or shall I see a doctor again? Will this much medication decrease his immune system and cause harm in long run?
Brief Answer:
Examination by a doctor is a must

hi XXXXXXX
Welcome to hcm.
Can understand your concerns.
Wheezing episodes can occur in child at this age due to temperature variations in environment.
Since, child is already on ventorlin and maxtra and despite of that the cough increased which suggests that he may have developed a wheezing episode and probably need nebulisation.
In my opinion, an x ray chest should be done because cough should not persist for so long.
An examination by doctor is a must to rule out wheezing episode and so that we may not miss any important finding.
These medications will not decrease the immunity but these should not be given for so long.
I hope this will help you.
Take care.
