default
Posted on Tue, 3 Nov 2015
Question: HI there - I have woken with tiny cold sores on my chin.... and progressively throughout the day my neck has stiffened (sore to touch at back and to swallow). Dull headache has developed. My period is 2-3 weeks late (not pregnant) - and mention this as often get cold sores (usually mouth) just before my period. Have taken an oral dose of Famvir (name?) - 0 or so hrs ago. Is this just a severe HSV episode?

Brief Answer:
Cold sores likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
From your description it seems to be a herpes lesion. It can flare up without a period also. It is best to take Famciclovir in appropriate dosage. The lesions are likely to subside in next 4-5 days with proper medicines.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
