Question: hi dr. last night my 4 month old baby was very colicky. he woke up for about 3 times at night and was crying badly. I had to give him colic aid and then he slept. Can u tell me what could be the reason for this? He is on bm as well as fm. And on bottle feedong only as he does not take my feed directly. I express my milk and feed him in bottle. Please advise what should be done.

Brief Answer:
It's due to fm

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
Can understand your concerns.

Colicky pain abdomen is very common in babies. It's incidence is less in babies who are exclusively breast fed.

Breast milk is easily digestible and that's why babies do not have pain abdomen while formula milk takes more time to digest.

Give colicaid drops when child has pain abdomen as prescribed by your physician. Try to give exclusive breast feeding, give formula milk only if you feel child is hungry and not satisfied.

Don't give ghutti or gripe water as they are not recommended.

I hope this will help you.
Wishing your child good health.
Take care.
