default
Posted on Wed, 27 May 2015
Question: I have pain in my right side under my rib cage and around to my back. I thought it was a kidney stone but CT scan was negative. I have been to the emergency room 3 times in a week. I have blood in my urine, high liver enzymes and a partially collapsed right lung. I also have been running a low grade fever off and on. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help

Respiratory tract infection

Hello

Thanks for the query

Viral respiratory tract infections can cause a picture like this where multiple systems can be involved. It can explain collapsed lung, raised liver enzymes and also blood in urine.

I recommend you to be on anti viral agents and also antibiotics for 5-7 days. If you could furnish your reports to me it could add more clarity to the situation.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Sharp pain in the right rib usually indicates pleurisy. Pleura is nothing but lining of the lung and viral infection of the pleura is common. Please get a chest x Ray done

i got a chest xray and a ct scan with contrast. It showed that my lung collapsed. i am still having a lot of pain under the right rib. i can breathe better since they gave me antibiotics but my breathing is still labored and sum slot of pain. i had no symptoms except the pain and then a lot of blood in my urine. then my lung collapsed and they said my liver enzymes are high. Here are some tips to prevent such infections in the future

1. Keep your hands clean. Make sure to wash them frequently especially before eating. Keep a hand sanitiser with you at all times
2. Cut your nails regularly
3. Be at a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or who might be infected
4. be careful in crowded places like bus and railway stations
