What Causes Concussion Post A Injury On Cheekbone?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Mar 2016
Question: After my last infusion I felt weak fatigued etc n I fell (tripping over step at a moderately fast walking pace) hitting my cheekbone on a hard chair arm relatively close in proximity to the floor. Of course cheek swelling n resultant typical black eye occurred but my concern is that it's been 10 days n yesterday I made two very embarrassing errors which doesn't happen -- the first was my confusion in dates thinking it was February rather than January n the second occurrence happened last night when I received cash for a refund returning a car seat n I went back n asked the sales clerk where would I get my refund n he told me that he already gave me two fifty dollar bills n I looked at him shocked having no recollection of n he said look in u front pack u put it in there n so I did n to my horror there the refunded cash was! I couldn't remember when or how I got the refund money!!!! Very very alarming n disturbing because I just people don't just not remember being handed 100.00 in cash. So my question is could my fall on cheekbone have caused a concussion?

Brief Answer:
Concussion

Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for sending your query to us.
There appears to be some concussion. Though you are too young for us to start suspecting a subdural hematoma, but it is always better to be cautious.
It is good that you noticed these two episodes and it will be better to get neurological examination and see if any further investigation is needed. In the meanwhile see if you get any headache and take rest and do not exert.
Any further query in this regard, please do get back to me.

Thank u so much! Im still vascillating back n forth whether i should go in to be seen or not -- hesitant to come across as merely a petty hypochondriac. This morning i had bloody nose for first time, left nostril only. And Yes moderate dull overall headache but only on that left side of face head n sorta neck. I took ib profin n just laying down resting cuz been exhausted . But if no real danger in waiting for a few more days, id much prefer to. I dread having to haul myself back in to dr cuz im so drained. Umm so u opinion? Again many thanks. Greatly assauging!

Since you are not feeling OK ,that is all the more reason why you should be checked thoroughly. It is betterto err on the side of being hypochondriac than to hear from doctor why did you not come early.
Be proactive and take action.

Dear sir, dr
Pardon if I come across as belligerent, for it is by far the contrast of earnest intention. For reasons i can expound upon if needed, could u possibly provide a couple relative real case scenarios of potential ramifications in delay/waiting vs. how immediate early intervention ( what if any is there?) could significantly impact outcome? N not sure if pics can indicate anything but here r a couple just in case

Detailed Answer:
My dear,
Thanks for be back to me.

We do not have to go too far. I slipped in bathroom in a hill resort and there was occasional pain also in the morning. Two months later I had two vomitings in the morning and had to be rushed to Neuro -Surgery for urgent surgery. During those two months I went to U.K also and was practicing and operating as well.

This is a routine story, that is how disease develops, most of the times the injury is too trivial to remember and diagnosis is not made till CT scan is fine.

There is another side. Scenario I mentioned is different for you as I was 60 when this happened, there is a potential space between brain and skull as the brain starts shrinking after 30 this is where blood vessels are hanging and they break during concussion.

Since you have symptoms, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Regards

There may not be anything but you have to err on the side of action. Even if there is nothing a level of baseline examination is necessary.
