What Causes Constant Chest Pain?

default
Posted on Sat, 25 Feb 2017
Question: I have been having chest discomfort for a couple months now. I've seen two cardiologists. I've had blood tests, echocardiogram, regular stress test and a nuclear test. I've had an upper gi test and a gal bladder ultrasound. I mostly have it on Lowe left side of my chest but it does go up in the middle at times. The nuclear stress test showed changes in the pictures from before and after the exercise but the ekg part of steer test was normal. My dr suggested a coronary angiogram which I did. That came out as being completely normal, no narrowing at all so he said that the nuclear test was a false positive because the angiogram is so highly accurate. He says the pains are caused by anxiety and my over anylizing of each and every feeling since I'm so paranoid something is wrong with my heart. He says I need to let go of the thoughts and I will probably get better and if not then I need to get on done medicarion for the anxiery. Both cardiologist told me this but I can't help but still think they did something wrong of missed something. The pains last very brief a few seconds at a time but quite a few times a day. Should I stop worrying? I guess I am looking for reassurance.

Hi and rhank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Angiography is the golden standard for the diagnosis of cardiac problems (including heart attacks), and a normal angiography will definitely rule out any heart problems.

This is why you shouldn't worry about cardiac problems.

Moreover your pain isn't typical for cardiac pain because it last a few seconds. Cardiac pains last 10-30 minutes it never last a couple of minutes or a few hours.

The fact that the pain last a few seconds is suggestive for anxiety and stress related pain. Try to stay calm and relaxed. Avoid over analyzing everything as long as all your exams were normal you have nothing to worry about.

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!

Thank you for the response, the only reason i ghink i wuestioned it is because the buckear stress test wasnt normal and thafs suooosed to be 92% accurate. But i guess if the angiogram is more accurate then that then inhave to just believe that it was a false positive!

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Yes this is exactly what I meant.

As long as angiography is the golden standard (more accurate than nuclear stress test) than the nuclear stress test results is a false positive.
