What Causes Constant Cough, Nose Bleeding And Electric Shock Feeling In Chest?
I am so worried about my mam, she has had a constant cough since before Xmas. She has had chest xrays, antibiotics, inhalers but unfortunately nothing has cleared this cough. The odd time she is having a nose bleed through one side. Today in a fit of coughing, she got like electric shocks across her chest and then down both arms. Can you please advise me what to do as I feel I am getting nowhere when I voice my concerns.
Thanking you.
Chronic bronchitis with Respiratory infection
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking
I read your question and i understand your concern. Constant cough at age of 72 with no or slight response to antibiotics is likely a chronic bronchitis / COPD with respiratory tract infection. And with geriatric age limits, these can be tough and resilient. Bronchodilators in shape of inhalers are necessary to keep the air flow rich in oxygen and it is not correlated with smoking necessarily . She has airways problems, and airway dilation with these inhalrs will help improve the symptoms.
She needs a complete thorough pulmonary exam as well as work up to sort out possible cause of infection and treat aggressively and apart from it, these supportive measures of inhalers and oxygen supplementation will continue.
pain in the chest with cough is normal and is due to pressure changes that involves lung membranes with cough and leads to such discomfort. Take some pain killers for that.
I hope it helps. Take good care of her and yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.
