Question: Hi, my son is 2 years and 3 months. He has fever in the range of 99- 102 for last 5 days along with cold. My doctor said this a viral fever and prescribed crocin ds, meftal p, montair and ascoril but the fever is still there. Should we get th blood tests done or wait for another day or two. The frequency of the fever has come down from 4 times a day to two.

Brief Answer:
I would like to wait for next 48 hours

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

I have gone through the details and do understand your concern.
Most common cause of fever with cough and cold in this age group is some viral infection.
In viral infection initially fever is of high grade(round the clock medicine is needed to control) and then the severity and frequency of fever spikes get decreased after 3-4 days. Also the well being of baby gets better during this period. It may take upto 7-8 days for complete subsidence of fever.
If it would have been bacterial infection severity of fever spikes get worsened.
So if baby's general condition (activity, feeds)has been improved and fever spikes also got decreased;I would like to wait for next 48-72 hours and observe the baby for any worsening in general condition.
Now as the frequency of fever has decreased I would suggest you to give crocin (paracetamol)only if there is raised temperature.
Continue other medication as advised and consult your pediatrician regarding investigation or antibiotics if you find any abnormality.

I hope this helps.
I shall be glad to help you out if you have any more queries.
Wishing for your baby's good health.
Thanks and regards
