Brief Answer:
Dysuria

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX,

Sometimes dysuria can happen due to eating something that you are sensitive to, but it can also be cause by infection in the urinary tract.

If you aren't having fevers or pain in the kidney areas (flanks - behind and just below your waist), then you can try to treat it at home by drinking a lot of water and cranberry juice. You can get a bottle of cranberry juice concentrate at the store and reconstitute it with water and a little apple juice (as it is pretty tart).

If this does not help or if your symptoms get worse, then you should go in to an urgent care clinic or see your doctor. There, you should give a urine specimen, and they should do not only a urinalysis, but if there are signs of infection on the urinalysis, they should send it to the lab for both a culture (which shows what the causative bacteria is) and sensitivity test (which shows which antibiotics the bacteria is sensitive to). They may also be able to see, from the urinalysis, if stones (or urinary gravel) are the cause of the pain. (An X-ray may help to show this too.) You may be in the process of passing a stone. In addition, prostate problems can cause urinary pain too.

So - if the pain isn't too bad, try drinking a lot of water and cranberry juice.
