What Causes Constipation And Cramping Pain When Diagnosed With Colon Cancer?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Jul 2015
Question: I have colon cancer. Diagnosed in 13', had section of colon removed. Since then pet scans clear. I had one scan in April and a colonoscopy last Oct. My husband passed away in April and a few weeks later I started having constipation problems and cramp pains. I had a flex sigmaedoscopy Thurs (7/9) and there is no blockage. I see my oncologist at the end of the month and will have another Pet/Scan in August. I am anxious about these pains.

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms do not seem to be cancer related.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please give some more information about the colon cancer (stage, lymph nodes metastases)?

Please note that the main risk associated with colon cancer are liver metastases. Cancer regrow in the intestine is less probable. Moreover it does not give symptoms like yours at first.
Your symptoms can be caused by stress along with bad diet indeed. However as you are after surgery, bowels obstruction due to adhesion are much more probable. Especially if your abdomen gets bloated and you have gas and stool obstruction from time to time.

I suggest you to consult your regular doctor first. Simple abdominal x-ray should be done. This test can tell if there is any blockage or not.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
