What Causes Constipation And Stomach Pain In A Newborn Infant?
Question: I breastfeed and give formula once or twice a day and she is seven weeks old and she went 3 or 4 days without pooping what should I do because her belly hurts and has lots of gas
Brief Answer:
Not a cause for concern. Needs no intervention.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
Let me assure you that for a child of less than 6 months of age, it is absolutely normal to pass stool once in 10 days. It is also normal if the child passes stool 10 times a day or even after each feed. Unless the stool is hard and pellet like, you need not get concerned and no intervention is needed. All you need to do is to continue breast feeding. I would discourage formula feeding. Formula milks are cow milk based and harder to digest. Undigested food matter, when degraded by the intestinal bacteria, produce the gases that you are referring to.

how do I know if my two month old is constipated?
How can I fix my 7week old daughter's extremely dry skin especially on her face, while baby oil breaks her out?

Brief Answer:
Use oil after bath, not before bath. Alternatively use aloe vera lotion.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
* Unless your daughter's stool is hard and pellet like, be sure that she does not have constipation.
* Apply aloe vera lotion on your daughter's skin. Aloe vera absorbs water and keeps the skin hydrated. A layer of oil can be applied thereafter or even after giving a bath, but not otherwise. Applying oil on a dry skin will not keep the skin well as the hydration is still missing.
Let me know if I could help further.
