What Causes Constipation Post Anorectoplasty?
Question: My daughter was operated on 7th XXXXXXX 2016 for Ano- vestibular fistula(PSARP). After surgery she is not passing stool by her own on regular basis. So we are using glycerin Injection to push out the stools when she is not passing by her own. We are also performing dilatation twice a day currently using size(15-16). We are also giving her duphalac 10ml twice on daily basis. As we monitor some days she is passing stools by her own on some days, but then she is not passing stools on her own on daily basis. In that case we inject glycerin injection to push out her stools. Please let us know when she will pass stool by her own without using glycerin injection.
Brief Answer:
Will take few weeks
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
I have seen the attached discharge summary.
After going through it and as per your description, post operative constipation is common in such cases.
But don't worry. It will settle in a few weeks.
Your doctor has advised glycerin to make sure your daughter doesn't strain during passing motion.
If she strains it will impair wound healing which usually takes 6 weeks.
Till then no har in giving it along with Duphalac.
I am sure she will get better soon.
Wishing your daughter speedy recovery.
Regards
Dr Arun

If you don't mind can you kindly let us know the surgical pharmacy where we can get the dilatational rods. I have enquired in some of the surgical pharmacy in K..R market sugical,, but I am not getting the required size. If you can suggest some other surgical phamasist that would be great
