Question: I have a 6yo daughter that was seen 3 days ago, and was diagnosed with strep and an ear infection, she was prescribed with 1.25 tsp Amoxicillin two times daily. For the last two nights she's been sneezing uncontrollably, mainly when trying to sleep. Is there a cause to this, being that it's not an all day event of sneezing attacks. Is there something I could give her to help with this, or is it possible that she could be allergic to this medicine?? I'm at a loss, I've been doing Benadryl and Amox at night to help with her drainage... As suggested by the doctor. What do I do? She's not sleeping much and neither am I, due to these attacks.

Dear Ms,
Being a parent myself i understand your concern and apprehension.
Sneezing is not likely y be allergic reaction to any of drug intake.
Its likely to be due to
1. Airway hyper reactivity:Presence of upper respiratory tract infection or ear infection causes hyper reactivity of airway.
2. allergy to dust in pillow and bedsheets
I would advise you the following
1. Steam inhalation: Preferably using a electronic steamer or from boiling water. 15-20 minutes every session 3 to 4 times a day
2. Levocetrizine+ Montelukast: Pediatric Tablet containing 2.5 mg of levocetrizine once a day will be beneficial. It can be available as over the counter anti allergy medication
3. Warm Saline gargling: To a glass of lukewarm water add 2 spoons of common table salt and gargle throat twice a day
Do get back to me for any further query.
Take care
