What Causes Cough Along With Mucus Drainage And Fatigue?

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Feb 2015
Question: Five weeks ago came down with the viral flu that's been sweeping the nation. These weeks later I have little indication of the flu--coughing, mucus drainage, etc.,-- but the high level of debilitation I had at the outset has not abated. I have no pain or symptoms beyond extreme debilitation.
About twenty years ago I contracted cat scratch fever and these present feelings of weakness and listlessness were very much a part of my being unable to work back then. On three other occasion since CSF I suffered the same condition. Could it be that the recent influenza reactivated the virus on this and earlier occasion.
Thank you,

Brief Answer:
not related to CSF.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

It is possible that your weakness and fatigue might be due to influenza infection (flu). In some cases such symptoms can last several weeks after the major part of flu symptoms have resolved.

Your present symptoms of weakness and feeling unwell and the previous episodes with such symptoms are not related to Cat scratch disease.
CSF is a bacterial infection that is acquired from a cat scratch that causes symptoms that can last several weeks.
Having one episode of cat scratch disease usually makes people immune for the rest of their lives. So after this bacterial infection is treated, the microorganism that cause the infection is no longer in your body,so it can't be reactivated later.
CSF has nothing to do with your present symptoms.
Your symptoms might be due to flu.I would suggest to give it some more time.
-Rest a lot,sleep well.
-Eat a well balanced diet with a lot of vegetables and fruits.
-Drink plenty of water.

If your symptoms of weakness and fatigue doesn't seem to improve ,you may need to run some tests to exclude some common causes for such symptoms including :
-Anemia ( complete blood count to exclude it)
-Vitamin deficiency (Vit B12 ,acid folic )
-Low blood pressure
-Hypothyroidism ( thyroid function tests )

Hope it helps.
Let me know if you have any other question or doubt to clarify.I will be happy to assist you further.
