Brief Answer:
Seems to be Laryngitis.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having voice change with cough.

Based on your clinical details, it appears to be acute laryngitis (voice box inflammation) secondary to a possible lung infection.

It is common that, untreated or resistant lung infections can lead to laryngitis.

In my opinion, 3 weeks old infection with active phlegm needs to be evaluated with x-ray chest and complete blood picture. Treatment can be started as per the findings. kindly discuss with your treating doctor about the investigations.

In the mean time, do steam inhalation twice daily (to clear clogged airways with thick secretions). Avoid consuming frozen products (curd/ice creams), Give absolute voice rest, Start cetirizine with pseudoephedrine combination drugs (over the counter tab. hicet-dc once daily).

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks for the detailed explanation doctor!

When I had the bad voice, I did visit a specific ENT doctor in my colony.
However, he just said that it could be acidity that could have caught my throat & gave few Pan-D tablets.

So, do you recommend me to visit some ENT or any other specialist immediately or continue to take the medicines mentioned by you for a few days & if it does not get better only then visit them.

Please suggest on the specialist who needs to be visited & also let me know the exact intake of the medicines mentioned by you - meaning how many tablets for how many days & how many times in a day...

"Give absolute voice rest, Start cetirizine with pseudoephedrine combination drugs (over the counter tab. hicet-dc once daily)."

Thanks a lot!

Brief Answer:
Needs x-ray chest.

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Answers for your queries.

1. This medications will only help in thinning of thick phlegm but not on stoppage of sputum production (you require another course of antibiotic). This tab, to be taken daily one at bed time for 3-5 days.

2. In my opinion, You first need to undergo laryngoscopy (status of voice box) and re- evaluation (x-ray chest and blood tests) from an ent surgeon to rule out the exact cause.

Hope, I have answered your query.

All the best. Take care.
