Brief Answer:
Lower respiratory tract infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Cough alone would not set as an indication for antibiotics treatment. If there is associated fever, productive cough i.e sputum, x ray indicative of infective process, high TLC count, raised ESR then antibiotics must be initiated.

If the above occur despite treatment with zpack then clearly the antibiotics need to be changed. Either amoxicillin clavulanate can be added to azithromycin or both can be replaced by moxifloxacin.

If the clinical findings and investigations are normal and its just an irritant cough then mucolytics, decongestants, bronchodilators and cough suppressing medications would suffice.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

I was given antibiotics for infection in my lungs.I've had c-diff
A few years age that was caused by antibotics. My lungs are much better today but I think I'm having another case of c-diff...cramps and anything i eat goes right thru my digestive system. I recently reduced the amount of pain medication that I take for my back (I've had 12 sugeries). I am taking time release morphine 15 mg three times a day. Was taking 30 mg three times a day. My pain meds are going thru my system before they can dissolve, and this is probrably adding to my discomfort. How long should I wait to get help.? Last timei lost 30 lbs and was in the hospital for a week

Brief Answer:
Clostridium Difficile

Detailed Answer:
Hello again.

Clostridium Difficile, toxin test should be performed on the diarrheal stool especially in symptomatic patients. Fever, TLC (white count) and creatinine must be done and checked for, in symptomatic individuals.

If there is fever, high white count and deranged renal function tests such as an elevated creatinine then treatment with vancomycin should be preferred over metronidazole.

If there is mild watery diarrhea with little or no cramping then fluids, anti spasmodic would suffice. In case of severe symptoms with cramping abdominal pain, malaise, fever, you should consult your doctor immediately to do the necessary workup and initiate treatment.

Wishing you best of health
