Posted on Thu, 18 Dec 2014
Question: Hi. I have some strange cold- my symptoms are: Lots of coughing, headaches, white on tongue, no appetite, low backache, low energy... But I am not experiencing stuffiness, although I do blow my noise pretty often- and that is all clear. I do not feel feverish. I have had this for a week now and it doesn't seem to be getting better. I am a healthy 50 year old otherwise... I sure hope you can help me... Farron

Brief Answer:
You likely have Allergic postnasal discharge resulting in coughing .

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.

After reading your clinical history it appears that you are having allergic postnasal discharge resulting in coughing .

If I were your treating doctor , I would advise the following:

Saline nasal spray thrice daily ,

Antihistaminic levocetirizine + Montelukast combination at night ,
These are prescription medications in most countries so you need to discuss the possibility of using them with your primary doctor to get the prescription.

Tab paracetamol for headache & pain .

You will get relief .

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.

Regards.

Wouldn't I be stuffy? and wouldn't the discharge be discolored? That all looks clear with no discoloration...I haven't been stuffed up at any point... Do you know what the white coloring could be on my tongue? food taste off as well. would an over the counter benedryl work?
