What Causes Coughing Up Green Mucus While Treating Flu?
Question: About a week ago I began with flu type symptoms, (slight headache, temperature, occasional cough) I went to a clinic and they said I had the flu although I tested negative. I have low grade fever (99-99.9) that comes and goes. The cough produced a green mucus. Now, it seems like it has evolved into something that has settled at the base of my neck, possibly connecting with the ears and throat. My neck feels stiff, especially toward the back, where my slight headache has been. The lymph nodes in my throat seem to be swollen. I am now getting some blood if I blow my nose. Not much.
I went back today to see my regular doctor and he also thought maybe the flu and took chest xray. But this now seems confined to throat, maybe to ears and base of neck primarily. My fever broke and temp was 95. I just feel something different is going on here. Any ideas? Also, I am napping quite a bit.

Brief Answer:
you may do well with a course of antibiotics
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic,
If even after a week you are coughing out green mucus then you will probably do well with a course of antibiotics. You are probably having some infection in the chest or sinuses. this is probably responsible for feeling that you are having in your throat.
Do not blow your nose with a lot of force. The small blood vessels that lie superficially in your nose will rupture resulting in bleeding.
Since there is no fever presently, there is nothing to worry. See your doctor to rule out sinus or chest infection.
Remember to drink lots of fluids and eat healthy and get adequate rest,
