Question: I have asthma, and lately my chest has been feeling tighter and I have been coughing on and off for the past few days. Today I coughed up some green phlegm and then my chest felt a lot freer for a few hours, but it started to feel slightly tighter again this evening. Is this something I should be concerned about?
Brief Answer:
Yes, there is reason to be concerned!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this recent cough episodes and breathing difficulties. Green cough is not normal and may actually be a sign of an infection.
Asthma related cough is thick white in color. Green cough is a sign of an infection caused by a particular class of germs. If this was a one time observation, monitor again and seek immediate medical attention should you cough up more greenish sputum. Beside do you have fevers? I will suggest that you get examined to rule out any signs of infections before settling with asthma as the cause of these symptoms.
In all, green sputum is not typical of asthma related cough. Should it happen again or should you have any fevers, seek medical attention.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information should need be.
