Question: Hello, i am a 28 years old female, i am currently 6 weeks postpartum. 2 weeks ago i noticed that my left knee started to make crunching noises when climbing the stairs and when straightning it, no pain, swelling, or tenderness. I did not have any knee or joint problems before.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to reduced joint lubricants.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
At your young age, the crunching in the knee is likely to be due to stress related minor capsular inflammation or decrease in the joint lubricants. The cause of your suffering is because of excessive physical exercise and may be not supplemented by proper diet. For now my advice would be-
1. Take a break from climbing stairs or squatting for few days and do walking.
2. Take balanced diet rich in calcium (1000mg/day) and vitamin D (1000 i.u. /day) along with vitamin B12, B6.
3. If you like you may have nutritional joint supplement like glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate.
If still there is no relief then oral steroids and oral lubricating agents like glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin are given. Injections - intra- articular are the last options to be considered if all the above measures fail.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
