What Causes Dark Discoloration Of The Thumb?

Question: My daughter"s fingers, mostly her thumbs have turned dark in color. it appears to be a darkening of her skin. She has had this discoloration for three days. She is 33 years of age. Any ideas?

I am unable to upload the pictures; she went into her doctor and her doctor was not concerned. She thought it was a reaction to something.

Is their something to read about a connective tissue disorder? Or look at pictures?Her fingers appear to be gaining their normal color back, but I am concerned.
