What Causes Dark Dry Patch On Penis Shaft?

Posted on Tue, 31 Mar 2015
Question: hi. 3 weeks ago i noticed my shaft getting a dark dry patch and the skin was getting slightly thicker and cracked as well. oh yeah, i also first had some white dots (rash). at first, i just started using lotion but the condition did not get better. I finally went to a doctor about a week later. He recommended lotrimin af, and after a couple days, the rash went down, and the crack healed where the dark patch was. The area remained dark so i kept applying lotrimin and i also had intercourse after fives days. The penis got red so i stop having intercourse. I kept applying lotrimin, past seven days as doctor recommended i use for a month and the bottle says 7. I know have slight redness, dry, and small cracks on the shaft spread more. Im hoping that happened from overuse of the lotrimin and not infection spreading...any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
May be due to overuse of Lotrimin or other agents

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome to Healthcaremagic,

I have gone through your question and clinical picture uploaded by you.
As per clinical picture it is irritant contact dermatitis. It is inflammation of the skin typically manifested by erythema, mild edema, and scaling. it is a non specific response to an allergen. Irritant may be any chemical present in duodrent, Underwear clothing, condom latex or even some medication applied.

I usually prescribe to my patients Mid potent steroid twice daily. Apply emollient three to four times a day.
Tab levocetirizine 5 mg to be taken once daily.

I also advise you to avoid intercourse for few days tii healing.
Hope this will help you.
Thanks

My only question for now is what kind of doctor would prescribe me that medication. Is it anything serious to worry about?

Dermatologist are specialized in treating these type of disorder.

In the mean time start applying emollient (it is an OTC product) 2-3 times daily.
