What Causes Dark Green Discolouration In Stool While On Azithromycin And NyQuil?
Question: Stool is a dark bright green for two days. Was taking Azithromycin for bronchitis and still taking NyQuil. Can NyQuil be the cause? It is the same color as the NyQuil.
Brief Answer:
Most likely due to food coloring.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
Well that can certainly be disturbing to have green poop! But I think you are on the right track to be suspicious of the NyQuil.
Medical causes for green stool are biliary/gall bladder problems, and rapid transit time through the intestines.
But the most common causes are food coloring, green leafy foods (kale, etc) and oral iron supplements.
The green color should resolve within 3-4 days of your last dose of NyQuil.
If you are having persistent abdominal pain or diarrhea, then do follow up with your doctor. Otherwise you can chalk it up to the NyQuil.
I hope this helps.
