Brief Answer:
Check for feeding position or nipple problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.
stool is dark for first few days, it is called as meconium, composed of materials ingested during the time the infant spends in the uterus: intestinal epithelial cells, lanugo, mucus, amniotic fluid, bile, and water.

For feeding problem, check whether the mother has adequate milk, no retracted nipple, proper feeding position.
Also tell me urine output that is number of times baby passes urine in 24 hrs., any history of fever.
Due to inadequate milk supply or colic pain baby might be irritable.
Get back to me , happy to help you.

Regards.

Brief Answer:
may be dehydration fever.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for the follow up.

If inspite of adequate milk output from mother baby is not taking proper feed, then we have to look for some lesion in his oral cavity.
Urine output you told is less, ideally it should be 6 to 7 times in 24 hrs.
Less urine means less milk means less water content in baby which might cause dehydration fever.

I suggest you give measured feed with katori and spoon.
If problem persists go for blood examination after discussing with doctor.

Hope i help you.

Brief Answer:
rule out infection

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for follow up.
If urine output is improved like 6 to 7 times a day and baby still has fever you should go for blood examination cbc and crp.

Also see whether baby is lethargic or irritable, taking feed properly or not.

This all warrents blood check up.

If baby is otherwise fine , taking feeds properly, urine output improved, normal activity , then you can wait for another 24 hrs.

Hope a speedy recovery to your baby.
Any further clarification will be welcomed.
Regards.

Brief Answer:
wait for 24 to 48 hrs.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for follow up.
It's good to hear that urine output is good, crying reduced, activity is good.
So i suggest you to wait for 24 to 48 hrs more it may be viral.
Viral fever may take 5 to 7 days to go off completly.
Give paracetamol only if fever crosses 99.5, till then you should wait.
Hope i helped you.
