What Causes Deep Cough, Difficulty In Walking, Fever, Chills And Diaphoresis?

Question: My husband had sudden onset of deep cough, especially triggered when laying down, weakness with an inability to walk unsupported, low grade fever, chilling,and, last evening, an episode of diaphoresis. He also seems a bit mentally out of it at times. This is the third day and he has tested negative for the flu. Any theories?

Your husband needs to be investigated further as pneumonia remains a possibility. Considering his age pneumonia can become troublesome and since there is already problem with cognition, I suggest that you put him in a hospital so that investigations and treatment go on simultaneously. He can also be under constant supervision.
