What Causes Delay In Menstruation After Taking I-pill?
Question: Hi Sir/ma'am, I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend on 6th of Feb which was a day after her period. She had ipill within 12 hrs of sex.she had bleeding after 5-6 days which continued for couple of days.she took a home pregnancy test on 18th of Feb which came out negetive. But till now she has not got her regular periods. Is there a possibility of her getting pregnant.I am a bit worried about this.please reply

Hi XXXX I have gone through your question. Having unprotected intercourse immediately after the periods is associated with very small chances of conception. Moreover, your girlfriend had taken i pill within 72 hours and got bleeding within 1 week, suggestive of the fact that the i pill had its effect.
Delay of 7-10 days in the next menstrual period after taking i pill (emergency contraceptive pill) is a known side-effect of this pill.
The home pregnancy test will not be positive so early, even if the conception has occured.
I suggest you both not to worry so much, and get a urine pregnancy test repeated. If it is still negative, then wait for 7-10 days for the spontaneous periods to come.
If the test is positive, then do consult an OBGYN specialist if you both decide for the termination of pregnancy by medical method.
