What Causes Delay In Menstruation After Taking Nordette?
Question: Hi my girlfriend and I had unprotected sex last March 8 & 14. She is expected to have her period last March 14. She took 1 tablet of nordette on those dates. Its been 6 days already and she haven't had her period. She has a regular menstrual cycle of 28 days (LMP was Feb. 14) and this is the first time she took nordette. She has the pre-menstrual symptoms already but she is worried that she might be pregnant.

Taking a single tablet of nordette after an unprotected sex does not provide a complete protection against pregnancy. Taking the pill however can cause a hormonal disturbance causing a delay in the period. Since the periods are already late by 6 days it is best to test her urine for pregnancy using a home pregnancy kit. This will help in ruling out pregnancy. In case the test is negative then she can wait for another week for the periods to start on their own.

We had unprotected sex past her fertility window and we have already done an HPT twice 4 days past her expected period. Both results are negative.
