Question: Hi; I recently haven't gotten my period for month of February. My last period was 1/28/15 and I'm 10 days late. Ive taken pregnancy tests and so far all are negative. My last day I was intimate was 2/24/15 and today I took pregnancy test and still negative. The symptoms I'm having are lower abdominal pain and bloating. Not constipated but having like 2 bowel movements a day. I usually have period every month though I am irregular. The symptoms started a few days after expected period start date. I do remember a month or two ago I started having low back pain when I wake up and in my legs. Ive also gaine almost 50lbs in last 6-9 months. Been really stressed out at work. My vaginal discharge varies. Sometimes white like cottage cheese, the other day yellowish like mucus and other times just clear milky. What could it be?

Brief Answer:
Repeat home pregnancy test after one week

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, I have gone through your question and understand your concern. Sometimes, the ovulation is delayed and hence the conception is late, that leads the home pregnancy test to become positive a little late.
Moreover, excessive stress and weight gain leads to hormonal imbalance in the body, which sometimes lead to delayed periods.
The consistency of the vaginal discharge varies with the time of the menstrual cycle, being thick and white before periods and clear around the time of the ovulation. It is completely normal.
I suggest you to repeat the urine pregnancy test after one week after the last test.
If it is still negative, do consult an OBGYN specialist to get properly examined, investigated and treated.
Hope yo found the answer helpful. Please do get back to us for further queries.
Wishing you good health.

So based on what I've mentioned; do you think I could be pregnant?

If its negative still after a week would it still be possible to be pregnant? If not, what other conditions could it be

I keep reading things and ectopic pregnancy comes up for signs of abdominal cramping. But I'm not having any bleeding or spotting and have had these cramps for a week

Brief Answer:
no chance of ectopic if HPT negative

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thanks for responding.

With the information you have given me it seems that you are pregnant. However negative pregnancy test is not in favour of pregnancy. In this case, I will perform a second test after a week to rule out pregnancy.

In other words, if it is still negative after a week, then there are very less chances of pregnancy. I would suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist to get examined and investigated for thyroid disease and other hormonal disturbances for delayed periods. If everything is normal, then your doctor may give you progesterone tablets for inducing periods.

If the urine pregnancy test is negative, it isn't likely to be a case of ectopic pregnancy.

Brief Answer:
Polycystic ovarian disease likely if HPT negative

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, I have gone through your question. Facial hair, weight gain and delayed periods are symptoms of polycystic ovarian disease. So definitely this is a possibility. However I would wait for the second pregnancy test results before considering it.

I would suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist to get investigated for PCOD and other associated hormonal disturbances if present, in case of your pregnancy test is negative.

Brief Answer:
get a ultrasound done

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thanks for responding. Sharp pain in right lower abdomen with delayed periods can be due to ectopic pregnancy or corpus luteal cyst of pregnancy. I would suggest you to get a urine pregnancy test and a ultrasound as soon as possible so that treatment can be done as soon as possible.

I did the urine test and still negative. Im 11 days late and no spotting or bleeding. And its been 14 days since last time i was intimate. You said it would still show up positive correct on urine test if i was pregnant?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Deepti Verma (47 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Get a ultrasound done

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thanks for responding. I insist on repeating urine pregnancy tests after a week from the first urine pregnancy test. If it still negative, ultrasound needs to be done for the cause of pain and polycystic ovaries. Pain in your case in right lower abdomen can be due to nerve compression or ligament stretch, as such pain are relieved on changing the position.

Thank you for your help. So based on the information of pain ive given you; are there any chances of it being PCOS?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Deepti Verma (20 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Pain not due to PCOS

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, the pain is most probably not due to PCOS, but delayed periods, weight gain and excessive facial hair are in the favour of the diagnosis of PCOS.

My doctor couldnt see me until tomorrow. The pain has decreased. But still sharp random pain. I took a pregnancy test today already at 13 days late and it said "not pregnant" i took a ovulation test and it says im at my peak from ovulating. So now it seems less likely i am pregnant right?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Deepti Verma (11 hours later)
Brief Answer:
No chance of pregnancy

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, thanks for responding. Yes, there are no chances of pregnancy if urine pregnancy test is negative and the ovulation kit is showing peak of ovulation. Moreover, if you are having ovulation now, then the periods will occur approximately 14-15 days later.
