What Causes Delayed Menstruation And Negative Pregnancy Test?

Question: My period is 5 days late but the test was negative I'm very uncomfortable like I'm on my cycle but I am not! Saturday it was so terrible I had to put my feet up and take Asprin and my breast are slightly sore... I'm so confused could my cycle be coming late or does this signal a problem
Brief Answer:
An occasional delayed period is normal.

Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns.
An occasional delayed period is normal. It does not signal problems. It occurs due to subtle hormonal changes as a result of stress ( physical or mental). The symptoms you are experiencing are also due to these hormonal changes. Since the pregnancy test is negative, consult your doctor and take progesterone to start your period. This will relieve you of all your symptoms.
If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama

should I wait sometime first to see if it will start first?? My period has always been normal and I've never missed unless I was pregnant... my period has never even been later before guess that's why I am alarmed by it plus my breast are very tender I was thinking it was maybe due to the short month of February but them that has nothing to do with the actual menstrual cycle

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
You can definitely wait for some days to see whether period will start on its own. Since you had other symptoms like tender breasts, I suggested you to take progesterone to start periods. With the starting of periods these symptoms will subside.
I hope this is helpful.
