Brief Answer:
Extremely Low Chance.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) Unwanted 72 pill gives more than 95% protection when it is taken within first 24 hrs of unprotected sex. Protected sex with condom ensures more SAFETY. Chance of pregnancy is EXTREMELY LOW in this case.

2) Frequent using of emergency pill may cause hormonal imbalance and irregular late period. Some other causes like Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD), thyroid disturbance (Hypothyroid), high prolactin level, mental stress, emotional upset, pelvic infection, irregular diet pattern, over weight etc are also responsible.

In that case, she needs proper treatment following clinical examination and necessary investigations after consultation with her gynecologist.

3) Vaginal itching may be due to yeast or bacterial infection. One swab culture test would be worthwhile. Kindly, consult with her gynecologist.

TREATMENT : I suggest Vaginal suppository like CLINGEN (combined Clindamycin and Clotrimazole) for 5-7 days to get relieve from itching.

> Use vaginal moisturizer cream like RepHresh pH gel or VAGISIL cream to avoid repeated infection and maintain vaginal pH. Maintain genital hygiene properly.

> Wear only cotton clothes. Don't wear any tight fitting cloths or pants to avoid repeated friction/ irritation. Take sound sleep adequately.

> Avoid chemical cosmetics, perfume or scented bath products around genital area. Keep the area mostly dry. You also AVOID unprotected intercourse and chemical lubricant until her problem is resolved completely.

> Take healthy diet with anti oxidant (like Vitamin -E or C, Selenium, Zinc etc) supplements. She must LIMIT the SALTY/ SUGARY/ FATTY foods.

Hope, it helps for your information. Kindly, close the discussion if you don't have any other query.

Wish her good health and take care yourself.

Brief Answer:
Do home pregnancy test if period delays > 1 week.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for follow up query.

1) If her period is delayed more than 1 week from expected due date, then she must undergo one home pregnancy test to clear doubt.

2) Frequent using of emergency pill (Unwanted 72 pill) is the MAIN reason of irregular delayed period due to hormonal imbalance. I have already mentioned other reasons which need proper investigation.

I suggest her to take REGULAR COMBINED pill after getting her period instead of emergency pill. It will give her regular period and highest protection (more than 99%) against unwanted pregnancy after 1 -month used. Kindly, consult with her doctor for prescription.

Hope, I have answered your query. Kindly, close the discussion.

All the best and good luck.

Regards,
Dr S Patra
