What Causes Depression After Stopping Steroid For Cough?
Question: Hi. My husband suffers from severe depression. He takes wellbutrin and Abilify When he started this treatment it really worked! At the time he was taking a steroid for coughing and then when he stopped that, the depression crept back. ( Dr upped his Abilify to 30mg) so I wonder if it's safe to take small dose of steroid with antidepressants. He is almost unable to function and I'm desperate. Please help. XXXXXX

Steroid can induce Hypomania and have a number of side effects like weight gain, hypertension, gastritis, cardiac problems and reduced bone density. Wellbutrin is not the first drug . I think he needs to be given SSRI like fluvoxamine or Sertraline in appropriate dose. Abilify is approved as mono therapy for depression in dose of 5-10 mg a day
I also suggest you to get his serum testosterone level at 8.30'AM and SHBG level . Also get Thyroid hormones levels.
