What Causes Diarrhea After Having Tramadol?
Question: Hi I am waiting to have hip surgery to remove bone spurs, a cyst and torn cartilage from my right hip joint. My doctor has me taking Tramadol HCL 50 mg for pain and meloxican 7.5 mg for inflammation. I have also switched the Tramadol to acetaminophen codeine 30 mg on some days. Are any of these drugs know to have the awful side effect of non-stop diarrhea? I have been eating something when I take this medication and have not been drinking alcohol. Thanks, XXXXXXX XXXXXX YYYY@YYYY
Brief Answer:
No, these medications rather case constipation.
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
These medications(tramadol and codeine) cause constipation and not diarrhea. However, if you stop the medications abruptly, you may have withdrawal symptoms in the from of diarrhea. This would stop all by itself. Remember to drink much fluids if you are having diarrhea.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
