What Causes Diarrhea And Black Stool?

Question: I have had moderate diarrhea the past couple days, and the stool is very dark brown/almost blackish....Am I at risk of a diesease?

I am Dr.R.K and I am pleased to assist you.

Black stool indicates bleeding from the upper GI tract.
Similar looking stool also occurs if you have taken iron supplements or Pepto Bismol.

If you have not take iron supplements or Pepto Bismol, you have to undergo an upper GI endoscopy to look for bleeding source.

Consult your doctor for this test.

If it is not black tarry, it might not be due to bleeding , but due to stomach bug. Stool analysis should be done in this case.
