he had pyloric stenosis so he underwent a pylorotomy laparoscopic surgery, a little over a month ago he's continued to have diarrhea and occasional vomiting. he crawls up me as if he is in pain, he crys a lot for no reason so I assume he's in pain he's got a constant hunger sleeps more than usual and at Times his pupils dilate and his lounge gets dry
Brief Answer:
The child could be crying due to abdominal discomfort
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.
Pyloric stenosis is indeed a problem that is observed around a month and a half of age and the surgery for it is quite simple. Give the child some time to heal and he would be fine soon. It is quite usual for a baby of this age to pass stool ten times a day or once in 10 days and in either case it is normal. Breast milk is the best feed for the baby but in case it cannot be procured, some other milk needs to be given. But external feeds increase the chances of digestive problems including diarrhoea and abdominal colic. Colicaid drops (contains simethicone) can be given to relieve the excessive crying. Feeding needs to be given at two hourly intervals or as demanded by the baby. Proper burping needs to be done. Hold the baby upright on your lap for about 20 mins after each feed. Try this method along with this medication and I think that the problem would be resolved. It is nothing abnormal if the child sleeps 20 hours a day. I cannot comment on the pupillary thing without examining but I guess that it is not something to worry about.
Hope that helps.
