What Causes Diarrhea, Nausea And Decreased Fetal Movements During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Jun 2015
Question: Hi doctor!!

I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant with baby #2. about 3 weeks I partially lost a bit of my mucous plug (according to my OB & WF)

Today, I've had constant diarrhoea, geek nauseated, and cannot for the life of me sleep. Fetal movements have decreased and I also get this strange sensation in my vagina (kinda like I need to pee but when I try, nothing comes out)

Should I be worried? Or is all of this quiet normal!?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
it might be gastritis or gastrointestinal infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to healthcare magic.I understand your concern.
In my opinion the diarrhea and nausea might be due to gastritis or gastrointestinal infection.
The frequent loose motions might have dehydrated you.The feeling of urge to pee but nothing comes might suggest a urine infection.
Urine infection might be predisposed by dehydration due to diarrhea.
So take adequate fluids upto 3 litres and electrol and coconut water.
Avoid spicy and oily diet.Take bland food.Take antiemetics like tab.ondem and antacids might also be helpful.
Dehydration also might lead to decreased fetal movements.
So I suggest you to follow the above measures and get a opinion from your consultant to rule out any gastrointestinal infection and urine infection.
Also rule out the wellbeing of fetus by doing an ultrasound if necessary.
You might need a complete urine examination to rule out urine infection.
The fetal movements can be counted by counting the movements in a span of 12 hours time.
If the count is 10 or more in 12 hours then the movements are normal.
Nothing to worry.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Feel free to discuss further.
Best regards...Dr.srilatha
