Question: I was just wondering if you can tell me if I have constipation..... when I go to the washroom I have a hard time going and when I do go most times lately it's not very much. I know I do have ibs as I was diagnosed a while back but usually my ibs is diarrhea not constipation. my stomach is sore all over like when I press on it, if I rub my tummy it feels a bit better. is it possible its gas?

Brief Answer:
IBS can be related to constipation, too

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Yes, based on your description, it is constipation. Ispaghula husk with ensure milk in one 250 ml glass twice daily can provide relief in acute constipation. Polyethylene glycol can also be advised in such cases. Adequate water and fiber intake and regular exercise at least 30 minutes daily would also help. Try one cup coffee or tea in the morning on empty stomach and then go for a brisk 30 minute walk. This will help you in having a comfortable bowel movement in the morning. IBS can be constipation predominant and its not necessary to have diarrhea associated with IBS in every case. If the soreness, pain is above the navel and there is associated heartburn / nausea then its likely to be GERD. PPIs such as pantoprazole, metoclopramide, sucralfate can be advised as part of the treatment, in consultation with your doctor.

Brief Answer:
Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello.

You can take over the counter Antacids and omeprazole to see for improvement. If the pain persists or worsens then you should consult a doctor who may advise x ray erect abdomen, EKG, amylase levels to rule out other causes. GERD/Dyspepsia should be treated thereafter if no serious cause is found.
