Question: Hi. I have a 17 month old. I breast fed all last year. And I had an IUD for 7 months taken out in August . It has been 5 full cycles and we haven't yet conceived our second child . Do you think something is wrong? I was reading about blocked Fallopian tubes, is that possible? I had a normal vaginal birth with her .. ? I have 27-29 day cycles

Brief Answer:
Can wait for some more time.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for posting your query.

After child birth, especially after having breast fed for more than a complete year, it is natural for a delay of return in ovulation due to hormone imbalances.

It is true that fallopian tube blockage can result in secondary infertility subsequently, when infection occurs during and after delivery. This can be ascertained only through laparoscopic chromotubation or hysterosalpingogram. I do not think you would need that right now.

In the current scenario, I would suggest observation with regular timing of intercourse around the ovulatory period. You can see a specialist for further management if you fail to conceive even after 6-8 months of sincere attempt.

Hope your query has been answered. Please feel free to contact for further information. I will be happy to help.

regards,
Shanti.V.
