What Causes Difficulty In Swallowing And Tightness In The Neck And Shoulders?
Question: Male, age 74.
I have had increasing problems with swallowing. Several months ago I could not swallow the large fish oil tablet I was taking every morning; yesterday I could not swallow the smaller vitamin tablet--it felt stuck in entrance to my wind pipe and I had to cough it up. When I swallow liquids I also sometimes cough and have to sit up more straight. Also have had tightness in my neck and shoulders.

Hi
Welcome to HCM
Thank you for your query
I understand your concern
Well you need to be evaluated by an endoscopy at earliest to rule out any swelling or growth inside the food pipe.
If endoscopy is not available soon can get an barium swallow x ray done in the mean time.
Avoid hard or solid foods which are likely to get stuck
Best wishes
Wish you a speedy recovery
