What Causes Difficulty In Urinating When Diagnosed With BPH?
Question: Hi, I have been seeing a urologist for the past 5 years with yearly visits. I have been diagnosed with BPH and often have a difficult time urinating. On 12/ 14 my PSA was 3.5, I recently had blood work done and my PSA was 4.3. I am not on any medication for the condition. I do have an appointment with my urologist in 3 weeks. My question is how does my doctor decide whether I should have a prostate biopsy or just put me on medication ? Can having BPH raise the PSA in such a manner? If my doctor decides to put me on medication are there any good natural alternatives? Thank you

1. PSA at 4.3 isn't an indication for biopsy, by itself.
The Urologist examination( DRE ), is very important to decide this.
Also, a TRUS (trans rectal scan) of prostate will be done, to decide this.
2. BPH alone can cause changes in PSA. It can cause a raise, with enlargement,infection or inflammation of prostate gland.
3. Natural drugs like saw palmetto, have been used by several patients.
Most patients aren't very happy and switch to standard prescription drugs.
