What Causes Difficulty Swallowing After A Broken Teeth?
Question: my mother has broken teeth, thick mucus ,and difficulty swallowing food or beverage. can this be related to broken teeth?

Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
As far as the mucous secretion, difficulty in swallowing is concerned i have one possibility.
it can be because of the infection in the broken tooth, that is periapical abscess leading to cellulitis. Nothing to be panic, consult a oral physician and get a radiograh done, which clearly shows the presence or absence of any infection.
If there is an infection, then the tooth can be treted with RCT or extraction.
If I am your treating doctor, i would have suggested you to take a course of antibiotics like amoxicillin 500mg TID and metronidazole 400mg BID(if you are not allergic) for three days. Do saline gargling.

would a regular hospital x-ray show abscess or is a radiograph the only way to go? thank you for your reply because she cant eat because mucus secretions .

Consult a oral physician and get a radiograph like IOPAR(Regular small radographs). By Clinical examination itself we can diagnose abscess but to confirm we need to take radiograph. The mucous secretion might be pus discharge also, so get it ruled out by consulting a oral physician. After confirming the diagnosis we can treat accordingly. The difficulty in swallowing can be because of the weak throat muscles, for this you need to consult a general physician or gastroenterologist.
