What Causes Difficulty Urinating And Blood From Vagina After Sexual Intercourse?
I had my first sexual intercourse on Monday and on Tuesday night, I was in pain and couldn't urinate properly. It was so frequent that I stayed up most of the night and I noticed that it was red and it came out in small amounts. I am trying to understand whether the blood is from my virginity or is this spotting? Its very unusual and is still happening 5 days later...Please help me, i do not want to get pregnant as I am of young age and it would be a shame upon my family...Thank you
It can be due to urine infection or cystitis.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Your symptoms are suggestive of infection.
Mild cystitis can go away by it's own with in 2-3 days but in your case it is quite severe, need treatment.
Advice from my side-
- You should consult a doctor and take antibiotics and pain killer( take early antibiotic treatment to prevent kidney infection)
- drink a lot of water.
- do not hold urine and maintain hygiene.
- drink a lot of cranberry juice and avoid sugary drink
- drink soda water
- take more vitamin c
If your symptoms does not resolve with treatment then get your investigation done to rule out the other causes.( ursine culture and sensitivity and pelvic ultrasound).
Yes, spotting or mild bleeding can occur after rupture of hymen membrane.
If you had emergency pill within 72 hours of intercourse,it highly prevents pregnancy.
Hope I have answered your query if you have further questions I will be happy to help you.
Good luck.

Thank you very much for your reply. It is so helpful to know this information. However, I am still in doubt and concerned on whether it could be due to early signs of pregnancy (spotting). Can spotting occur right away after sexual intercourse? And I have been in-taking a lot of water recently so I am not quite sure if its due to urine infection. Could you please also tell me the differences and symptoms between urine infection and spotting? Please clarify further with me because I am really scared it might be pregnancy; something that I really want to prevent.
Kind Regards,
XXXX
Explain below.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Nice to see you again.
Facts about your problem-
- Spotting can occur immediately after intercourse due to injury, infection, polyp, cervical lesion etc.
- spotting due to pregnancy not occur immediately after intercourse.
- Sometimes drinking a lot of water only does not relieve symptoms of infection, you need antibiotic treatment also.
- in infection you are having other symptoms like pain, fever, discharge and urinary frequency etc.
In your case your symptoms are very much suggestive of infection but chances of pregnancy are not 100% rule out.
When did you take emergency pill after sex? After how many hours of intercourse?
Please revert back to me.
Good luck.

Thank you so much once again. In regards to the emergency pill, I took it on Thursday afternoon, three days after the sexual intercourse occurred so Im guessing around 72 hours? And you also mention that spotting due to pregnancy does not occur immediately after intercourse...if you don't mind me asking but why is this? Thank you for reassuring me Dr XXXXXXX and i hope, God willing, that this is not a case of pregnancy.
Kind Regards,
XXXX
Yes! It is true.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Nice to listen from you.
Yes! it is true if spotting is associated with pregnancy then it does not occur immediately after sex.
Pregnancy related spotting or bleeding occur ( which we called implantation bleeding) at least 6-12 days after conception.
Your chances of pregnancy further decreases because you had I- pill with in 72 hrs. after intercourse.
