What Causes Discomfort And Tenderness In The Rectum?
Question: A couple of weeks ago I experienced some moderately severe rectal discomfort -- not really pain so much as discomfort. Bowel movements were normal, no blood in stool. The discomfort gradually subsided to the point now of being pretty much gone. But there is still some rectal tenderness, as well as some blood, again not in stool but on the toilet paper, as well as what I can only describe as small stool buildup over the course of the day around the rectum.
Brief Answer:
Fissure
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
XXXXXXX blood in stools with discomfort or pain points to a possibility of fissure in ano.
I recommend you to consult your primary care physician who can examine you and rule out the same.
Meanwhile do take laxatives like Liquid paraffin. This will prevent worsening of the condition and provide relief from the symptoms.
Do not consume hard and spicy foods for a week from now.
Hope, I answered your query.
Wish you good health.
Regards,
Fissure

Dr. XXXXXXX thank you for your prompt reply. As a follow-up, apart from the pain of a couple of weeks ago, which has since disappeared, I've not experienced any particular pain during bowel movements, just some tenderness. Would this still point toward a fissure? Thank you again.
Brief Answer:
unrelated to small or large bowel
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back.
Fissure occurs in the walls of the anal canal. It is unrelated with the bowel movements.
Blood per rectum and discomfort are very typical symptoms seen in fissures.
