What Causes Discomfort During Urination Along With Frequent Urination?
Question: after i urinate I still have some feeling of discomfort. I urinate a lot which seems to me my bladder is empty .I have had bladder scans which show my bladder is empting nornal. I had scope exam and DR said uritha, bladder and prostate are all in prefect. I had external beam radiation for Prostate cancer a couple years ago. I had pain and burning for quite awhile after. Then .I had some retention and had a catheter for five days and ever since no more pain or burning.. Just still have feelings of bladder is not always empting . The only way I can rid this feeling is to keep drinking a lot of water so i will urinate and then for awhile it will feel normal,but then it starts over again..I usually have to massage my bladder .to make me urinate and the feeling goes away for awhile.This improves in the evening.. Could this be a side affect from the radiation? This is becoming very distressing to me . any advice

You see , the External Beam Radiotherapy that you took for the prostate cancer has a number of adverse effects like
1.It can irritate the bladder and lead to a condition called radiation cystitis. You might need to urinate more often, the burning sensation you had initially , could be due to this.
2.Urinary incontinence: The urinary incontinence , which means they can’t control their urine or have leakage or dribbling. The risk is low at first, but it goes up each year for several years after treatment.
Do not be so anxious .
I would suggest you to
1. Drink loads of water . This will reduce the felling of incomplete evacuation of your bladder.
2. There are a few new upcoming agents like anti-oxidants and prostaglandins that can help you .
3. Keep in touch with your urologist . He/she can examine and guide you on the further management.
