Question : Hello Dr,
. I gave my 3.5 yr old kid 14 ml of pedicoryl with a gap of 4 hrs for doing a hearing test. He was behaving hyper after the second dose and did not sleep for 4 hr once the syrup was given the second time. After that he slept for 3 yrs and now he is better but still complaints of some discomfort in the head. He has still not started speaking fully just says one syllable words.

Pedicloryl is a very commonly used and one of the safest sedative in pediatric age group.You have given about twice the amount of required dose.
Intestinal disturbances,rashes,dizziness,feeling of excitement,headache,confusion,light headedness can occur after overdose of the pedicloryl.
Serious side effects like respiratory depression and convulsion is uncommon and can occur after very heavy dose of pedicloryl consumption.
The symptoms you have mentioned suggest that there was hyperactivity and now he is complaining of headache and still drowsy. The metabolism of the drug is rapid and it get clears from the blood within 10-12 hours.Chances of serious side effects are less now.
I would suggest you to observe the child for any respiratory abnormality or reappearance of abnormal behaviour.If you notice any of these consult your physician immediately.
Don't force him for feed,as he is still drowsy and there are chances of vomiting and aspiration of food.
